Who is the Pioneers Program for?
The Pioneers Program is designed for students ages 8–13 who are ready to move beyond simply exploring nature and begin developing practical outdoor skills. Through hands-on experiences in areas such as firecraft, wildlife tracking, navigation, shelter building, and more, students learn to become capable, confident, and thoughtful outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen.
This program is ideal for curious, active learners who enjoy solving problems, working together, and spending time outside in all kinds of weather. Families who value practical life skills, outdoor adventure, and Christ-centered education will find a strong fit in the Pioneers Program, where every lesson points students toward a deeper appreciation of God's creation (Psalm 111:2
*No prior experience is required — just curiosity, cooperation, and a willingness to learn.
When and Where?
The Pioneers program is offered twice each year, with sessions held in both spring and fall. Our Spring program runs from March through April, and our Fall program from September through October. Each session is self-contained, so students may join in either season without prior participation. New themes and skill-building challenges are introduced each term, allowing returning students to deepen their knowledge and confidence year after year.
Aside from Orientation Day, the Pioneers Program is a student drop-off program. Parents are welcome to enjoy the trails or remain nearby during class, but instruction and activities are designed for students to participate independently.
Classes meet on Thursdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm at English Point Recreation Trails. This location is carefully chosen for accessibility, safety, and hands-on learning opportunities.

September 10th — Orientation & Wildlife Tracking(Parent attendance is required from 8:30–9:30 AM.)
September 24th — Paracord, Woodworking & Wilderness Knots
October 1st — Knotwork, Sheltercraft & Pace Counting
October 8th — Land Navigation & Introduction to Scouting
October 15th — Scout Day (Stealth, Awareness & Natural Camouflage)
October 22nd — Water Filtration, Fire Starters & Semester Finale
Cost:
The cost of the Pioneers Program is $595 per student. Tuition covers all instruction and program materials unless otherwise noted. Payment is due in full at the time of registration.
Sibling Discount: Families registering multiple children may apply one coupon code to the last child's registration only:
• 2CHILDREN – 10% off (2 children total)
• 3CHILDREN – 15% off (3 children total)
• 4CHILDREN – 20% off (4 children total)
Across Programs: Sibling discounts apply across all Cedarwood Enrichment Programs (Sprigs, Pioneers, and Rangers). If registering children in different programs, you're welcome to apply the coupon code to the highest-priced program to maximize your savings.
IHLA Funding: Cedarwood Outdoor School is an approved Idaho Home Learning Academy (IHLA) vendor. Families enrolled with IHLA may be able to use their available educational funds toward program tuition. Please contact us before registering if you would like to use IHLA funding. Tuition discounts cannot be applied when using IHLA funds.
