Workshop Details

Most people walk past dozens of useful plants without ever realizing it. With a little guidance, however, the landscape begins to reveal an abundance of edible and medicinal species growing right under our feet.

In this hands-on field workshop, students will explore the fundamentals of plant identification while discovering a variety of edible and medicinal plants growing in the local landscape. Through guided observation and discussion, participants will learn to recognize key identifying characteristics, understand important safety principles, and practice responsible harvesting methods.

During the second half of the workshop, students will gain hands-on experience preparing simple herbal remedies using plants we encounter along the walk. Participants will learn to prepare practical herbal preparations such as infusions, decoctions, poultices, plasters, and wound washes while discussing their traditional uses and applications in basic wilderness first aid.

By the end of the workshop, students will have a greater awareness of the plants growing around them and a practical introduction to the skills of plant identification, foraging, herbal medicine making, and basic wilderness first aid.
