Backlighting Night

Registration - FULL

Join us for a night of glowing discovery! Under the beam of UV lights, we’ll uncover the hidden world of nocturnal insects—moths, beetles, and more—as they come alive in vibrant color. We’ll also venture out on short excursions to blacklight scorpions and search for other elusive creatures of the night, like owls, amphibians, and snakes. This hands-on evening is perfect for curious minds and adventurous spirits, combining science, exploration, and wonder in God’s nighttime creation.

The next Blacklighting Night will be held on July 25 from 7:45pm to 10:00pm.

This event costs $5 per person, but if you are a family of 4 or more, it will be a flat fee of $20. Cash and Venmo options are available at the start of the event.

Students will meet at the Walker Ranch trailhead. For a map, click here.

Cedarwood Outdoor School will loan field guides, flashlights, magnifying glasses, and other equipment to sharpen wildlife observations.

All ages are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Please bring water and wear appropriate clothing.

Students are not required to stay for the entire duration, but must arrive at 7:45pm sharp so that we can walk down as a group.

“You make darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest creep about”
